Panzer IV Detailing

Yes i am taking my time for this Panzer.. the little spare time i have these days i use to weather this model part by part. The advantage of this is that every part is different so you have a very interesting model at the end.

I use oil paint and AK Interactive products exclusively for weathering for this project. I combine the oilpaint technique from Michael Rinaldi ( RinaldiStudio ) together with the AK Interactive products.

As you can see there is still a lot to do but i thought i would be nice to show some pics of the progress i made.

When you work with oils you have to be patience but you can achieve some cool effects. As you can see the shiny brown spot does not look like leather at all, what you can see is the structure that can be simply made when your working with oils.

In real live you shall notice the orange and yellow i used in the brown color. When things are dry i gently drybrush it with buff and there you have your worn leather piece!

The weathering stage on top of the hull is almost ready, next to the different colors i used for the spots i also add wet effects in some corners to make it more realistic, after al the Panzer IV is knocked out in a cold wet environment and is abandoned by its crew.

The worn whitewash on the turret is oil paint, i didn't want to use the hairspray technique so it looks more interesting with the hull were i did use the hairspray technique. The effects on the storage bin is made with oils and with AK wet effects.

Next thing to do is the comander cupola, im a not happy how the chipping is done, i think it looks a lot better with some heave chipping with light colors so it stand out more when ready..

I hope you like the update, till next time..!

Panzer IV Paint

Back again, after the last touch up's it was time for paint. I used the AK CM set but i have to be honest that next time i mix my own paint again. Next step is couple of thin layers of thinned buff/sand yellow to make the Panzer more yellow without loosing to much of the CM

Panzer IV

Since i  have to wait for the last figure to finish the Stug Nordland dio i started a new build. It is a Tamiya Panzer IV which i bought from a fellow scale modeler who had started it by placing a Verlinden interior kit in the model.

After some browsing on the web i was inspired by some pics of panzers who were knocked out but not completly burned out, perfect to show the interior of my panzer!

I updated the kit with a lot of sanding, drilling, some PE, RB Model barrel and Friul tracks. The zimmerit is made of thin sheets of white Milliput. On the photos i think it looks to thick but because of the white color but were talking about 1 or 2 mm thicknes.

The hit

I still got some detailing to do and since the summer here still is cold and wet i maybe be able this one before the SMF show SMC  www.scalemodelfactory.nl/smc01.html

SS Sturmgeschutz Abteiling 11 "Nordland" 4

Back again with a huge photo update :)

Between the diapers of our little girl i manage to make a base for the Stug. It is made of plastic card, foam and DAS clay with some fine sand sprinkled on top. After the whole base was sprayed black it was time to get out the Tamiya tape to protect the black base. The groundwork is sprayed brown and after that  i used AK products for the weathering.

The "melted" ice in the pools are candle wax and the pools are made with Vallejo still water with some brown Vallejo brown paint to make it muddy. It is hard to see in the pics but it has a nice effect.

The stug is fixed to the base but isn't ready yet, it still need some detail painting! The figures are almost ready for paint but i am afraid that this will take some time ;)

And now some more detail pics below.. Till next update!
